Licensing & Usage

Understand your rights and usage terms for purchased Canva templates

Last Updated: December 6, 2025

License Overview

When you purchase a Canva template from Canva Templates, you are granted an Extended Commercial License that allows you to use the template for both personal and commercial projects. This license is designed to give you maximum flexibility while protecting the intellectual property rights of our designers.

Please read these terms carefully to understand what you can and cannot do with your purchased templates.

What You CAN Do

Your purchase includes the right to:

Personal & Commercial Use

Use templates for personal projects, business purposes, and commercial applications without additional fees. Create designs for your own business, brand, or marketing campaigns.

Client Work

Customize and use templates to create designs for your clients as a freelancer, designer, or agency. You can charge for your design services and deliver finished products to clients.

Unlimited Projects

Create unlimited end products from each template. Use the same template multiple times for different projects, clients, or campaigns without restrictions on quantity.

Modify & Customize

Freely edit, modify, adapt, and customize templates to suit your needs. Change colors, fonts, images, text, layouts, and any design elements. Make the template uniquely yours.

Social Media & Digital Platforms

Use finished designs on social media (Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn), websites, blogs, email newsletters, online advertisements, and any digital platforms.

Print Materials

Print designs for physical products including posters, flyers, brochures, business cards, banners, marketing materials, packaging, merchandise, and promotional items.

Commercial Products

Incorporate finished designs into commercial products for sale, such as printed goods, merchandise, marketing materials, and digital assets (with limitations - see restrictions below).

Portfolio & Marketing

Showcase finished designs in your portfolio, website, social media, or promotional materials to demonstrate your design work and attract clients.

Multiple Device Access

Access your purchased templates from any device where you're logged into your Canva account. Work on designs from your computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Download in Multiple Formats

Download your customized designs in various file formats supported by Canva (PNG, JPG, PDF, MP4, GIF, SVG) for different use cases.

What You CANNOT Do

The following uses are strictly prohibited and violate your license agreement:

Resell or Redistribute Templates

You cannot resell, redistribute, sublicense, or share the original Canva template files or links. This includes selling templates on marketplaces, sharing links with others, or providing access to the original templates.

Create Competing Products

You cannot use templates to create competing template products, bundles, or collections for sale. This includes making minor modifications to templates and selling them as new templates.

Share Template Access

Template links and access are for individual use only. You cannot share your template access links with team members, clients, or other users. Each person needs their own license.

Trademark or Register Designs

You cannot claim ownership of the original template design, trademark template elements, or register templates as your own intellectual property. The design copyright remains with the original creator.

Offer Templates as Free Downloads

You cannot make templates available as free downloads, lead magnets, or giveaways in their original editable format. This applies even if you've made modifications to the template.

Create Template Subscriptions

You cannot include purchased templates in subscription services, membership sites, or template libraries where users gain access to multiple templates.

Automated or Mass Distribution

You cannot use automated systems to distribute templates or make them available through print-on-demand services where end users can edit the template themselves.

Illegal or Harmful Content

You cannot use templates to create content that is illegal, defamatory, obscene, hateful, discriminatory, or violates the rights of others.

  • Canva's Content License applies to stock images, graphics, and fonts used within templates
  • You're responsible for understanding Canva's usage restrictions on their platform elements

  • If you experience technical issues preventing template access, contact support within 7 days
  • If a template significantly differs from its description, we may offer a refund or replacement
  • Refunds are evaluated on a case-by-case basis
  • Violation of license terms may result in license revocation without refund
